This is the type specimen fixed up after peer review.

  1. Nick – this will be a good portfolio piece with a few changes:

    1. The first thing I notice is the client logo (TypeCombo.com) because it is in color, huge, and sitting in upper right. I question every one of those decisions. I would recommend that you return to the design of the logo also – creating something that will be successful at a much small size, which you could tuck away somewhere so that it doesn’t challenge what should be the focal point (your heading).

    2. Heading – this is where some color could be used… and if you agree, then think boldly here, because you are hoping that the designer who has received this in the mail will tack it up on their wall. If you aren’t interested in color, then I suggest you run a pure black band across the top of the poster and sitting behind the portrait where a white-colored bold heading could sit.

    3. No need to “spec” out the font and size of the heading, those elements aren’t sitting consistently anyway. Not sure you need them.

    4. Your complete alphabets should have their “specs” sitting consistently as well, here I see a FR and a FL caption below them. Choose one alignment – there is no reason to make a contrast here.

    5. I think it might be nice to increase the gutter to the left of “Families include:” column (3rd column from left). Let’s rethink the content of that column. Showing the different styles for each Face makes sense, but I’m not sure we need to see paragraphs of type again, since you’ve given us that at the top of the other 2 columns. What about showing us some large characters that are distinctive to each Face? Would they overlap his portrait? Enjoy the white space that this thinner column could give to the composition… as opposed to the well-filled columns to its left.

Looking forward to seeing this again.
