Nice dog illustration. My only suggestion would be to use an off-white/light grey for his chest... currently it is in such high contrast to his other colors it seems to jump out at the viewer.
What type can you add? And where? Want to add some type about a Dog Shelter... like "We found our perfect pet at the Shelter" - or something along those lines? If you were to eliminate the background for now, the type could sit above ( and maybe tucked a little behind) his head. Then contact information and a website would be a good thing to add (along the bottom?).
